Chalkboard Contact Paper Gift Tags

Recently I discovered chalkboard contact paper … brilliant! Really doesn’t take much to make me happy. So, in the spirit of holiday season gift giving, I created these super cute snowflake gift tags. Let me show you how to make them for your family and friends.

You’ll need:

• Roll of contact paper
• Paper punch (mine is a circle but you can also pick up really cool tag shaped punches as well)
• Chalk pen
• Hole punch
• Card stock paper (any color will do)
• String or twine

I purchased the contact paper, and chalk pen on Amazon, although you can purchase all of the project ingredients at any craft store.

Here’s how you do it:

1. Cut a piece of contact paper which will cover the card stock paper.
2. Peel the backing of the contact paper and place it firmly on the paper.
3. Cut the shape of your tag using the paper punch.
4. Draw a snowflake or other image of choice. My method of drawing a snowflake is to simply start with an X then continue adding additional Xs on top of the first one. Then add little embellishments like dots or lines to create a unique snowflake.
5. Punch a hole in the tag, add string or twine and you’re done!

I created these little succulent hostess gifts using vintage red depression glass goblets. Super fun and super easy!

Fast Craft Holidays – Craft Paper Gift Bags

It’s the night before Christmas and this creature should not be stirring but alas, here I am wrapping last-minute gifts and of course I ran out of holiday gift wrapping paper. No worries, with a roll of craft paper and a sewing machine, I whipped up these cute little paper gift bags — perfect for anything that will fit into a gift bag! What’s great about these is you can customize the size to the gift and you can use any type of paper — newspaper would look awesome too!

Here’s what you’ll need:

• Craft paper or newspaper
• Sewing machine
• Hole punch
• Pinking shears
• Twigs

Here’s how you do it:

1. Cut a section of paper to accommodate the gift it will hold.
2. Then fold the paper in half and using a sewing machine, run a seam up either side.
3. Using a pinking shears, cut a decorative edge where the opening of the bag will be.
4. Make a flap (like an envelope) by folding over the top edge of the bag.
5. Using a hole punch, make two holes directly through the folded over flap. This step allows you to insert the twig which will act as the seal for the gift bag.
6. Adorn with a gift tag, like my men’s necktie holiday tags (follow these instructions) and your done!

Wacky Wreath Wednesday

This holiday season I wanted to create a holiday wreath that was different from all the other wreaths on the neighborhood front doors. So, I wired bunches of radishes on a store-bought boxwood wreath.

I love the way this project turned out and if the weather stays cool, this wreath will easily last through the holiday season.

To create your own:

1. Buy a pre-made wreath then swing by the grocery store to pick up some radishes. I used nine bunches on mine.
2. Using floral wire, which you can buy at any craft store, wire the bunches of radishes to your wreath.
3. Add a ribbon (optional) and you’re done!

Twine Christmas Trees

The holidays are here which means crafters are in overdrive! Dreaming, creating, repurposing, and general overall decorating madness. Trying to avoid the creative urge to scheme, invent easy and beautiful holiday crafts is futile.

So here we go. Take these styrofoam cones for example – with a roll of twine, and some glue you will create awesome Christmas trees.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

You’ll need:

• Styrofoam cones
• Hot glue gun
• Twine
• Bases for the trees (optional)

All supplies can generally be found at any craft store – I even found these birch bases at Michaels. If you can’t find twine, you will certainly score some at your local hardware store — that’s where I found mine.

Here’s how you do it:

1. Starting at the base of the cone, hot glue the start of the twine then continue to wrap the twine till you reach the top.
2. Hot glue the twine to the top of the cone.
3. Done!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

For a little extra holiday pop, I added wool felt ball garland and tree toppers. However, these trees look amazing on their own. I also found the felt balls at Michaels and simply created the garland by threading the balls together with a sewing needle and red thread.

‘The Art of Patron’ Contest Submission

The Art of Patron challenge … check! I submitted my creation, Snow Globe, Patron Style, by contest deadline but let me tell ya crafters, it wasn’t without some disasters and minor meltdowns, some involving cussing. Yes I like to do that occasionally and it feels good – sorry mom!  Anywho there were hot messes far too many to yammer on about. But the best was AFTER I inserted the trees, glitter, liquid, and sealed the cork I stepped back to admire my work … there it was, floating gently around the bottle with glitter swirling around its lifeless body, a tequila loving spider…&#%!@?!!!! Fast forward to a moment of silence for Mr Spider, more cussing, and a project do-over, I finished my creations. Phew!

After I simmer down, I’ll share the ‘how-to’ for making YOUR own spider-free snow globe. All conflama aside, it was a fun challenge and thank you Patron for the opportunity to participate!

Tiny Twig Trees

 

We’re on the holiday home stretch right now and if you’re looking for ideas for a super cute gift or party favor, you’ve come to the right place. These tiny twig trees are fun, easy, and sure to please.

You’ll need:

• Twigs
• Hot glue gun
• Tiny containers to compliment your tiny trees
• Moss
• Dry floral foam

Here’s how to do it:

1. Create the tree by laying out five pieces of twigs on a flat surface; one is the trunk, second is the base of the tree, the third and fourth are the sides and the fifth is the center.
2. After you have the shape desired, place a dab of hot glue where the twigs touch each other.
3. When the glue is dry insert dry floral foam into the container then insert the tree into the foam (trunk first).
4. Glue some moss to cover the foam and you are done!

Twig Stars

If you’re like me, you appreciate a quick and easy craft project. One that repurposes the ordinary into extraordinary with little fuss and little time. If this sounds familiar, then I have a project is for you.

You’ll need:

• Five twigs – all the same length
• A hot glue gun
• Craft paint (optional)

Here’s how you do it:

1. To shape the star, lay the twigs on a flat surface.
2. After you have the shape desired, place a dab of hot glue where the twigs touch each other.
3. Paint.
4. You’re done!

Now how easy is that! They’re great for your holiday tree or would be awesome as gift toppers. You decide.

Flannel Shirt Coasters

Okay, I hear you…enough with the flannel shirt projects already! I have all of these scraps of old flannel shirts from previous craft projects like this one & this one and honestly, I just can’t help myself.  Stick with me crafters…this project is super easy, and fast.

Here’s what you’ll need:

• Scraps of flannel from old shirts
• Blank coasters – I found mine on Etsy and they are made of 100% recycled pulp board paper
• Waterproof shoe spray
• Spray adhesive
• Scissors

Here’s how ya do it:

1. Cut a piece of flannel to cover the coaster and set aside.
2. Spray the coaster with spray adhesive.
3. Place the flannel over the coaster and press firmly to remove any wrinkles.
4. With a scissors, cut away the excess fabric from the coaster.
5. Finally, spray the flannel side of the coaster with waterproof shoe spray.
6. Let dry and your done!

Flannel Shirt Holiday Gift Tags

 

If you’re thinking about trashing those holey flannel shirts – think again. You can repurpose them into one of a kind holiday gift tags.

With the exception of the flannel shirts, you can find all project ingredients at your local craft store. Here’s what you’ll need.

• For the flannel shirts, you’ll need to clean out your closet or visit a thrift store
• Repositional spray adhesive
• Card stock
• Circle punch
• Eyelet punch with 1/8″ eyelets
• Scissors
• Ribbon or twine

Here’s how ya do it:

1. With the circle punch, cut circles out of card stock paper to create a gift tag.
2. Cut a piece of flannel to cover the gift tag and set aside.
3. Spray the gift tag on one side with spray adhesive.
4. Place the flannel over the gift tag and press firmly and remove any wrinkles. You can reposition the fabric until you have the desired placement.
5. With a scissors, cut away the excess fabric from the gift tag.
6. With the eyelet punch, create the hole for the ribbon or twine. Note to crafters, if you don’t want to use an eyelet punch, you can use a regular paper punch.
7. Insert ribbon or twine in the hole.
8. Your done!

Glitter Christmas Trees in Milk Glass Vases

Who doesn’t have loads of milk glass vases sitting around? Okay crafters, maybe just me but I’m going to show you how to turn those vases upside down to create charming bases for glitter Christmas trees.

You’ll need:

• Milk glass vases (flea markets, antique stores are a good source for these beauties)
• Styrofoam cones
• Elmers Glue
• Foam brushes
• Glitter
• Glue gun

All of the project ingredients, with the exception of the vases, can be found at any craft store.

Here’s how ya do it:

1. Turn the vase upside down to make sure it doesn’t wobble when sitting on a flat surface.
2. Then choose the appropriate sized styrofoam cone to rest securely on the bottom of the vase.
3. Using a foam brush, completely slather the styrofoam cone with glue and douse it with glitter. Glittering 101: To avoid a massive glitter fiasco, find a large cardboard box and position it so the opening is on the top, place the object to be glittered inside the box then sprinkle glitter until you have completely covered said object. Don’t forget to glitter the bottom of the tree!
4. When the glittered cone is completely dry, use a glue gun to affix the cone to the bottom of the vase.
5. You’re done!
